🔮 New Magic Item: Emberlace Veil 🔮
A Behind the Die Exclusive by Charlie Stayton
Every so often, a magic item finds its way into the world not through war or wizardry, but through legend, loss, and a trace of love that refuses to fade. Today, Behind the Die unveils a new artifact for your spell-slinging rogues and court-infiltrating warlocks: the Emberlace Veil.
Emberlace Veil
Wondrous Item, rare (requires attunement by a spellcaster or rogue)
This delicate, silken veil is woven with threads of glowing ember silk, harvested from the dream cocoons of fire moths found only in the volcanic caverns of the Ashen Vale. To the untrained eye, it looks like an ornate scarf or bridal lace — but worn properly, it obscures the wearer’s presence like smoke curling through moonlight.
Properties:
-
Veil of Shadows. While wearing the veil, the wearer can use a bonus action to become lightly obscured, as if shrouded by smoke. This effect lasts for 1 minute and recharges after a short or long rest.
-
Charm of the Smoldering Glance. As an action, the wearer may cast Charm Person (DC 15) without verbal or material components. This feature can be used once per day.
-
Ashen Disguise. Once per long rest, the wearer may cast Disguise Self and become surrounded by drifting embers. Creatures observing the transformation must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or be distracted, giving the wearer advantage on their next Charisma (Deception or Performance) check.
Curse (Optional Twist):
The veil whispers promises of forgotten love. Prolonged use (attuned for 7+ days) may instill visions of a lover lost in flame — a memory not the character’s own. DMs may explore this as a roleplay thread or a haunting mystery.
Why Use It?
The Emberlace Veil is perfect for espionage-heavy campaigns, noble court intrigue, or characters who blur the line between performer and manipulator. It adds a blend of utility and style with just a whisper of the arcane tragic.
Add it to your next heist, or place it in the private vault of a mourning noble who hasn't removed it from her dresser in a decade.
🎲 Tell Me What You’d Do With It!
Would you give the veil to a bard with a haunted past? Use it as the key to deceiving a fire cult? Or make it the only relic left behind by a forgotten queen?
